| Ken Alexander was the perfect role model for any Police footballer. Signing for the Police as a police cadet in 1976 having turned down Linfield. He went on to play 460 first team games for the R.U.C. after making his debut against Chimney Corner.
Awarded a testimonial in 1989 Alexander won :-
2 Junior International Caps, 2 Irish League “B” Division honours, 1 Irish League “B” Division Championship medal, 2 runners up, 4 I.F.A. Intermediate Cup medals, 3 British championship medals , 4 runners up, 3 Smirnoff Cup winners medals, 1 runners up and 1 Steele Cup runners up medals.
A Ballymena man affectionately known as “Yin”, his two great memories of police football are reaching the semi-final of the Irish Cup and winning the British Police Cup for the first time in London against the Metropolitan Police when he scored the opening goal in a 2-1 win.
A right sided midfielder, Alexander was a tremendous competitor who always gave 100% effort without complaint. His record for Police football is without parallel. |
