George Brown was born on 27th. April 1919 where the family lived at Mill road Whitehouse.; his father Robert was also a fine footballer with Linfield Swifts and Junior Ireland.

On joining the R.U.C in 1939 he made his debut for the police against the East Lancs.  Regiment at Hollywood. Initially he was stationed in Bangor where he signed for the local team in 1940 having previously played for the Co-Op Rec F.C.

  A tall centre half Brown made his debut for Linfield on 30th. August 1941 against Belfast Celtic in a game that finished in a 1-1 draw. Brown went on to make 62 appearances for “the Blues” between 1941 and 1944 including twice against Shamrock Rovers in the Inter cities cup in 1942.  The following year he won a runners up medal in the Co. Antrim Shield when Belfast Celtic beat Linfield 2-1 in the final. Whilst playing for Linfield he signed for Larne before moving to Bangor in 1947 where he stayed until 1950. During his career he was Captain of the R.U.C. who played in Police Internationals against the home countries and representative games against Glasgow City Police, Sheffield Police plus a variety of Military teams.

In December 1949 he made his last appearance for the R.U.C. against the Kings Dragoon Guards in Omagh  In 1950 he resigned from the police and moved to London where he signed for Isthmian League side Clapham where he finished his career.
