Legends - John Bap Dunlop

John Bap Dunlop
John Dunlop started his soccer career at Elmgrove School in East Belfast.
In 1938 he won schoolboy honours against England, Scotland and Wales. In
1939 he joined Glentoran at the age of 15 where he quickly made a name for
himself as a great dead ball kicker.

With football disrupted during the war the Bap then moved to Ards and then
Bangor. Towards the end of the 1945 season he moved to Glenavon Res.
where he won a junior International cap against Eire. His next move was to
Coleraine before moving to Crusaders in 1946 and from there he returned to
Bangor where he stayed until 1949 winning many Inter League Caps.

In 1950 he joined the R.U.C. and once again was on the move when he
transferred to Glentoran where he won Irish Cup, Irish League, City Cup,
Ulster Cup and numerous other medals. The Glentoran team at that time
contained such famous names as Cecil Moore, Tommy Hughes and Dando
Feeney. His next port of call was Distillery and then Larne in a coaching role.
With the R.U.C. he played for the British Police in the European Police
Championships when they won the tournament in 1952 in Edinburgh. In 1950
he was awarded an Amateur Cap against England when with Bangor and in
1951 he was capped again against Scotland when playing with Glentoran. He
represented the R.U.C. for ten years before retiring in 1960
